Daniel R. Hernandez

was born in Bryan, Texas on November 4, 1950.  He graduated from Texas A&M University (B.S., 1973) and is now practicing law as a local attorney (admitted to the Texas Bar in 1987) and former Bryan City Councilman.

Community Volunteer Facilitator Daniel Hernandez of Hernandez Law Firm, P.C., saw the need in our community for parent programs that help inspire children. Principals, Holly Scott at Milam Elementary and Linda Montoya at Anson Jones Elementary, agreed with Hernandez’s vision and Read by 3rd Program was created in 2013. There are plenty of reading programs for children, but Read by 3rd is unlike any other, because the focus is on the parents — the most significant teacher in the child’s life.

Mr. Hernandez is fluent in Spanish and this has helped the Read by 3rd program reach and assists Hispanic Families.   Mr. Hernandez is working to expand the program to College Station ISD.

Mr. Hernandez’ Read by 3rd program was designed to be transformational.   Our parents have experienced renewed hope for their children’s success. Read by 3rd parents have expressed their aspiration for their children by restructuring their home life, learning skills and becoming involved with their teachers in the social and educational development of their children. In addition, some Read by 3rd parents feel that the program is so beneficial, they are now becoming volunteers for the program.

Mr. Hernandez is admitted to practice before the; United States District Court, Southern District of Texas.  He has been a member of the Brazos County, State Bar of Texas; College of the State Bar Association.  Mr. Hernandez has held leadership positions throughout his career that include Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Director for Texas A&M University System and Georgetown University.  He has served as Human Resources Consultant to the Center for International Strategic Studies in Washington D.C. He joined Waltman & Crowley Law Firm focusing in personal injury litigation in 1988.

In 1990 he became Assistant General Counsel and Chief of Litigation for Texas A&M University System where he represented the system in civil rights matters in federal and state courts across the state.  In 2004 he was promoted to Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Community Development and in 2002 joined the Hernandez Law Firm, P.C. where he currently serves as Partner.  Mr. Hernandez’s legal background includes serving in roles as General Counsel for Mexican American Engineers and Science Organization and as an advisory board member of the Frank Evans Center for Conflict Resolution for the South Texas School of Law.  He serves as a consultant and mediator for school districts, economic development, congressional offices, corporations and hospital districts. He has trained over 500 attorneys and professors in US and Mexico. Mr. Hernandez has traveled to over 12 countries representing private and government interests, and making presentations regarding Negotiation and Mediation issues.
